Madeleine Elkins Trio Western Canadian Fall Tour
Trio with William Chernoff & Kevin Romain - shows in Edmonton, Calgary, Canmore, Burnaby Oct. 16-21
Between October 16th and 21st, 2026, I join guitarist Madeleine Elkins in her trio with Kevin Romain on drums, to play four concerts: three in Alberta and one in Metro Vancouver. I'd love to see you at any of these shows!

In the trio, we play instrumental music (mostly Madeleine's original material, plus some from other artists that she selects) with lots of improvisation. I'd say it sounds like experimental rock, jazz, and sometimes folk. We've played at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Jazz at the Bolt festival, on Vancouver Island, and beyond.
Being a supporting musician in Madeleine's trio has been my main playing situation over the past year or two. Madeleine and I met in high school, and we've been friends and frequent musical partners for over 15 years now. So proud of her continuing success!
I've had great fun sharing the rhythm section with Kevin in this trio. He's the big bass/drum relationship in my life now, and it's such an cool change from the completely different style of music I was playing in my last one. He's awesome.

Madeleine Elkins bio
Vancouver-based guitarist Madeleine Elkins writes intricate compositions at the crossroads of jazz, folk, and rock. Named by The Vancouver Sun as one of “10 Vancouver music acts to watch in 2026,” she has been described as “one of the freshest and most varied” players in the city.
Elkins is carving out a bold new voice in the Canadian contemporary jazz scene, regularly touring Western Canada as a guitarist in support of independent artists. She has performed with Mali Obomsawin, Wayne Horvitz, Kaïa Kater, Madelyn Read, Maddisun, the Sister Jazz Orchestra, Meredith Louise, Frankie and the Juicebox, Zan Fiskum, and many more.
Elkins’ current focus as a bandleader is her trio, featuring William Chernoff on bass and Kevin Romain on drums. She released her debut album, Brighton Train, with this trio in 2025 on the Infidels Jazz label. Inspired by exploratory artists like Bill Frisell and Mary Halvorson, Elkins merges contemporary jazz with modern bluegrass and post-punk guitar sounds, often using a guitar riff as the central theme of a composition. She was profiled on CBC/Radio-Canada in June 2026 and is based in East Vancouver.
