Western Red Cedar at Tyrant Studios

On Friday, November 14, 2025, my band called Western Red Cedar played at Tyrant Studios, 1019 Seymour Street above the historic Penthouse nightclub, downtown Vancouver. The band for this show was me on electric bass and acoustic guitar, John Nicholson on saxophone, Jancis Bautista on piano, Madeleine Elkins on electric guitar, and Jamison Ko on drums. Plus special guest, Maria Barrington-Foote of My Sister Maria!

Western Red Cedar plays Celtic-based music in an improvising ensemble. That includes Irish, Scottish, Franco-Canadian, and more traditions. I hope this project can be a voice for the genre-bending west coast, joining a new wave of "avant-folk" that has emerged from Glasgow to Québec.
