Upcoming (May 13): Western Red Cedar at Brentwood Presbyterian Church
On Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 8pm, my band called Western Red Cedar will play for Brentwood Presbyterian Church's Jazz Evensong series. This set will feature a drumless version of the band; I'll sing some songs, switching between electric bass and acoustic guitar. Joining me are John Nicholson on reeds, Madeleine Elkins on electric guitar, and Jancis Bautista on piano. The Jazz Evensong service starts at 8pm, and the music combined with the service lasts just over an hour.
You'll be able to watch back the entire performance via Brentwood's YouTube stream.
It's my fourth annual appearance at the series, thanks to the invitation of Rev. Brian Fraser. The first one was July 12, 2023, when I brought the Maybe Eventually trio of Francis Henson on guitar and Carson Tworow on drums. The second took place in May 2024 with Madeleine on guitar and with Miles Wong on drums. The third, last May, featured my one-off project playing the music of the late trumpeter-composer Ron Miles.
